Felton Prairie

Native and restored prairie, woodlots, gravel pits.

This area is a mix of private lands, Wildlife Management Area Units managed by Minnesota DNR, and a Scientific and Natural Area. The area is the most important gravel prairie complex in the state and many rare bird species can be seen there.

Greater Prairie-Chicken, Upland Sandpiper, Marbled Godwit, Snowy Owl (winter only), Loggerhead Shrike, Willow Flycatcher, Grasshopper and LeConte’s Sparrows, Chestnut-collared (breeding) and Lapland (migrant) Longspurs, Orchard Oriole. Rarities seen include: Prairie Falcon, Say’s Phoebe, Sprague’s Pipit, Baird’s Sparrow.

Private property is included in this complex, so please obey signs. Prairie wildflowers are spectacular in mid summer.
